Description

Big question with the Cleanse – can I eat chocolate!? The answer is YES. Pure raw cacao powder is totally Cleanse-Worthy, it’s loaded with minerals and anti-oxidants and is alkalizing for your body. Raw cacao is slightly different from traditional Dutch cocoa powder, raw cacao has been processed at low temperatures to retain all the nutrients and the deep rich flavor. It has become pretty mainstream, I actually bought a bag at a HomeSense of all places, you can get it at most well-stocked grocery stores and at all health food stores. This recipe below is a great pick-me-up any time of day, in-fact at my yoga studio we’ve been know to eat these right after our 5:45am yoga class – yum!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup ground almonds
  • 1/2 cup almond butter
  • 1/4 cup raw cacao powder
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • Pinch of celtic sea salt
  • Optional add-ins 2 Tbsp Maca Powder, 4 Tbsp cacao chips

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl combine all the ingredients.
  2. With slightly wet hands, roll into small balls. If desired, roll in cocoa powder or raw cacao powder. Store in the fridge for one week or freezer for one month.

Notes

Maca: available in powdered form, Maca is a plant that grows in central Peru in the high plateaus of the Andes mountains. It has been cultivated as a vegetable crop in Peru for at least 3000 years. Maca is a relative of the radish and has an odor similar to butterscotch. Its root is used to make medicine.

Maca is used for “tired blood” (anemia); chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS); and enhancing energy, stamina, athletic performance, memory, and fertility. Women use maca for female hormone imbalance, menstrual problems, and symptoms of menopause. Maca is also used for weak bones (osteoporosis), depression, stomach cancer, leukemia, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, erectile dysfunction (ED), to arouse sexual desire, and to boost the immune system.
